In 1914, Frederick Northup acquired the Milden Packing Co, including a canning factory, by the steamboat wharf in Sharps, Virginia. Northup installed bulk oil tanks on adjacent wharf and property to supply watermen, farmers, and homeowners with quality fuel. He later opened bulk oil distribution plants in Colonial Beach, Tappahannock, and Irvington, Virginia.
In 1945, after his military service in World War II, Lester Terhune, Frederick's nephew, entered the oil business with his uncle. Just two years later in January, Frederick passed away. Lester assumed the running of the businesses' operations.
Lester moved the oil business from Sharps in 1961, and opened a gas station at the intersection of Routes 3 and 360 in Warsaw, where the business still operates today. In 1977, Lester's son, Stan, enter the business with his father. Together, they built their first convenience store, the Gas and Go in Kilmarnock, Virginia.
The father-son duo opened another convenience store in Claraville in 1985, followed by locations in Kinsale, Warsaw, and Village Virginia. Today, Stan still operates the business, upholding the family tradition of offering quality fuels for people of the Northern Neck and surrounding counties.
